We know that computer software can grade multiple-choice exams like the SAT or other standardized tests, but can it read students’ essays and assess them, too? More and more high schools and colleges have begun using software that purports to do just that, but on my America Weekend show, Dr. Les Perelman of MIT debunked those claims. He explained what the software really does, why it’s not effective at grading essays, and why even Microsoft Word isn’t always a reliable tool.
