There’s a new documentary, “Waiting For Superman,” about the American education system, but Diane Ravitch says it’s really part of a continuing attack on public schools in this country.
Ravitch, the former Assistant Secretary of Education, joined me to explain how the movie wrongly props up charter schools as an answer, vilifies teachers’ unions, and misunderstands how important good principals are to good schools. We also discussed what was wrong with NBC’s week of “Education Nation” reports, why No Child Left Behind hasn’t worked, how there’s far too much emphasis on test scores, and how Finland achieved its status as world leader in education.
