In my review yesterday of the horribly pretentious new movie, “Annette,” I neglected to mention something that my friend Jim Batts drew attention to. In the first scene of Adam Driver’s character, Henry, performing as a standup comedian, he quotes four lines from the great Tom Lehrer’s song, “National Brotherhood Week.” Unfortunately, he doesn’t mention Lehrer or give him any credit.
I’m not sure how many modern moviegoers know the origin of the material or the man who wrote it, but YouTube has video of Lehrer doing the song in 1967. Unfortunately, that site won’t allow me to embed it on this site — so, go watch it here.
