This week, an Italian appeals court overturned the decision that let American college student Amanda Knox go free a couple of years ago, and ordered that she be tried again for the murder of Meredith Kercher in 2009. Mathematician Leila Schneps reviewed the court’s decision and concluded that the judge made a serious error because he doesn’t understand probability and statistics.
