Broadway veterans Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley have started doing a nightly YouTube show, “Stars In The House,” with guests joining from their homes. It serves partially as a fundraiser for The Actors Fund, which supports both performers and behind-the-scenes workers in theaters all over the place.
The first episode (from last Monday night) featured Kelli O’Hara, one of the great musical stars of this era. She has been nominated for seven Tonys for shows such as “South Pacific,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” and “The Pajama Game.” She won a Tony in 2015 for her lead performance as Anna Leonowens in “The King and I.”
In this clip (which should start 39 minutes into the stream), she explains how she got some backlash from a British dialect coach when she took the show to London. Then she performs “Getting To Know You,” switching between the original style and the way she did it in the UK, with a nice surprise at the end.
