My wife was very impressed by Questlove’s “SNL” music montage (which I posted yesterday) and said it reminded her of a similar tribute to movies we saw many years ago.
She was referring to “Precious Images,” compiled by Chuck Workman in 1986 for the fiftieth anniversary of the Directors Guild. It is composed of 470 shots from major motion pictures in a mere eight minutes. It went on to win the 1987 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short.
While amazing to watch all that film history flicker by, it’s daunting to think of the thousands of movies that have been made in the nearly forty years since this debuted — and whether anyone will do an updated version.
