Aaron Barnhart wrote a lot about David Letterman, beginning 20 years ago in The Village Voice, then with his online newsletter, “Late Show News,” and in his career as a TV critic at the Kansas City Star. He was also a longtime contributor to my radio show, so it seemed appropriate to bring him back to discuss Letterman’s retirement on my America Weekend show.

I asked Aaron why Letterman decided now was the time to quit, whether Stephen Colbert (who has quickly became the front-runner in media speculation) is the right person to succeed him, and what Letterman will do once he leaves late night television.
