My wife and I are regular viewers of “Sunday Morning” on CBS, and never miss the Moment In Nature that ends each broadcast.

But I’m mystified by the message that precedes it, when the announcer tells us it is sponsored by Subaru. Then she continues: “Love. It’s what makes Subaru Subaru.”

What does that even mean? I suppose it’s true in a sense, in that love does not make Toyota Subaru.

But if I were thinking about buying a new car, I’d like to hear a sponsorship message more along the lines of, “Subaru. We know how to make reliable cars that will get you and your family wherever you’re going safely with pretty good gas mileage and a minimum of maintenance issues.”

On the other hand, if the announcer had to read all of that, there wouldn’t be any time for the Moment In Nature.
